Care Where It Counts: Driving Community Impact Through the Centene Foundation

Making a difference in communities starts with our CenTeam. Every role helps remove barriers to care, strengthen local systems, and support the conditions that allow communities to thrive. The Centene Foundation strengthens this impact by partnering with local organizations and supporting programs that tackle social drivers of health and drive sustainable, measurable change.

These stories highlight how our CenTeam and the Centene Foundation turn their work into real-world impact. Join us to be a part of initiatives that strengthen communities while building a meaningful career.

Supporting Survivors at The Umbrella Center – North Carolina

Umbrellan Center

In Charlotte, the Centene Foundation and WellCare of North Carolina are investing $1.95 million in The Umbrella Center, a comprehensive family justice center. Slated to open in 2026, the center will provide holistic services for survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, child and elder abuse, and human trafficking. By consolidating legal, healthcare, and social services under one roof, the center simplifies access to care, improves safety, and strengthens the Charlotte community.

Expanding Rural Healthcare Access – Georgia

In rural Georgia, the Centene Foundation and Peach State Health Plan are investing $2.2 million to expand the Medical College of Georgia’s 3+ Program and the Dental College of Georgia. Students completing their medical or dental training in three years can receive loan forgiveness if they practice in underserved counties. This initiative strengthens rural healthcare infrastructure, expands access to care, and creates meaningful career opportunities for healthcare providers in communities that need them most.

Empowering Social Entrepreneurship and Wellness – New York

The Centene Foundation and Fidelis Care are investing $1.1 million over five years to establish a wellness center managed by the Community Health Center of Buffalo. The center supports BIPOC-focused organizations, promotes social entrepreneurship, and provides collaborative health programs. By addressing social drivers of health, fostering innovation, and advancing economic equity, this initiative demonstrates Centene’s commitment to holistic community impact.

Reducing Homelessness and Improving Access – Iowa

In Iowa, the Centene Foundation and Iowa Total Care are providing $2.55 million to expand healthcare and social services through Central Iowa Shelter & Services. The initiative includes a centralized Housing Command Center, satellite offices in rural communities, and a social determinants of health mobile app. By coordinating care and services in both urban and rural areas, the program ensures unhoused individuals can access resources efficiently and effectively.

Fostering Inclusive School Environments – Nationwide

Since 2017, the Centene Foundation has sponsored the “No One Eats Alone” program, which encourages students to build inclusive school communities. Social isolation negatively affects children’s physical and mental health, academic performance, and overall well-being. In 2025, over 3,300 schools in all 50 states participated, reaching more than 1.5 million students. Schools receive curriculum and materials in a “Belonging Box” at no cost, helping students create cultures of inclusion and connection.
