Post Graduate Year 1 (PGY-1) Residency in Managed Care
Centene offers the opportunity to develop and refine clinical, leadership and communication skills through innovative practice.
We provide a comprehensive managed care experience in a collaborative environment of excellence and learning. At the completion of the program, residents will be skilled pharmacists and understand basic regulatory requirements for state and federal health programs.
Rotation Site: We are a fully remote program with offices available in key market cities.
Residents will be prepared for positions in:
- Prior authorizations
- Formulary development and management
- Quality initiatives
- Drug utilization review
- Medication therapy management
- Specialty pharmacy operations
Program Details
Post Graduate Year 1 (PGY-1) Residency in Managed Care
Accreditation: American Society of Health-System Pharmacists in partnership with the Academy of Managed Care Pharmacy.
Centene Pharmacy’s PGY-1 Managed Care Pharmacy Residency Program is designed to build upon the Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) education and outcomes to develop pharmacist clinicians with diverse patient care, leadership and education skills. Participants will receive systematic training of pharmacists to achieve professional competence in the delivery of patient care and managed care pharmacy practice.

Learning Opportunities
During your residency, we will establish goals and objectives to match your interests and complement your previous experience. In addition to completing a yearlong research project, you will also have opportunities to:
- Present at professional pharmacy conferences (e.g. ASHP, regional residency showcase), amd corporate meetings
- Participate in a mentorship program
- Apply to participate in a resident teaching certificate program (as available through local university)
- Develop and present an ACPE-accredited CE course
- Interview and evaluate prospective program candidates
Eligibility
- Graduate of an ACPE-accredited college or school of pharmacy or have a Foreign Pharmacy Graduate Equivalency Committee (FPGEC) certificate from the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy (NABP)
- U.S. state pharmacist license
- Able to commit to a one-year residency
- Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States and will not require sponsorship now, or in the future
Application Process
Applicants will complete the following before January 1st:
- Online employment application
- American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) Resident Matching Program Registration
- Submission to the Pharmacy Online Residency Centralized Application Service (PhORCAS):
- Letter of intent explaining your motivation to pursue the residency
- Current curriculum vitae
- Three letters of recommendation, preferably from a pharmacy school professor, work or internship advisor, and an Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experience (APPE) preceptor
- School of pharmacy official transcript
Interview (Required)
- Applicants will record video responses to screening questions when completing the Centene online application
- Selected applicants will be invited to an interview by the end of January
- Rotations start the first Monday in July
