Position Purpose:

The Systems Engineer is responsible for the design, implementation, operation, and lifecycle management of enterprise Windows Server infrastructure. This role goes beyond day-to-day administration and focuses on engineering reliability, scalability, and security across on‑prem and possible hybrid environments. Systems Engineers act as technical owners for server platforms, drive remediation and modernization efforts, and partner closely with application, security, and infrastructure teams to maintain a stable and compliant environment.

Platform Engineering & Lifecycle Management:

  • Engineer, maintain, and modernize Windows Server environments across multiple versions (2008–2025 and beyond).
  • Perform in-place OS upgrades, server builds, decommissioning servers, and lifecycle remediation.
  • Own technical execution for production and non-production changes, including change documentation and validation.

Operations & Reliability (KTLO):

  • Serve as an escalation point for complex Windows Server incidents and performance issues.
  • Participate in on-call rotations, incident bridges, and root cause analysis.
  • Ensure platform availability, resilience, and recovery for business‑critical systems.

Cross‑Functional Collaboration:

  • Work closely with application teams, virtualization, storage, backup, monitoring, and security teams to deliver integrated solutions.
  • Provide technical guidance to Administrators and contribute knowledge to junior engineers.
  • Clearly communicate technical risks, options, and recommendations to peers and leadership.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Complies with all policies and standards.

Education/Experience:

A Bachelor's degree in a quantitative or business field (e.g., statistics, mathematics, engineering, computer science) and requires 2 – 4 years of related experience.

Or equivalent experience acquired through accomplishments of applicable knowledge, duties, scope and skill reflective of the level of this position.

Technical Skills:

  • Strong experience supporting enterprise Windows Server platforms.
  • Familiarity with ServiceNow, and enterprise change processes.
  • Understanding of security concepts related to server infrastructure.
  • Comfortable operating in a production, 24x7 enterprise environment.
  • Proficiency with PowerShell.
  • Understanding of cloud computing, particularly MS Azure.
  • Familiarity with enterprise monitoring solutions such as Dynatrace.
  • Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work independently on complex technical problems.


Soft Skills:

  • Intermediate - Seeks to acquire knowledge in area of specialty.
  • Intermediate - Ability to identify basic problems and procedural irregularities, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Intermediate - Ability to work independently.
Pay Range: $63,600.00 - $114,600.00 per year

Centene offers a comprehensive benefits package including: competitive pay, health insurance, 401K and stock purchase plans, tuition reimbursement, paid time off plus holidays, and a flexible approach to work with remote, hybrid, field or office work schedules. Actual pay will be adjusted based on an individual's skills, experience, education, and other job-related factors permitted by law, including full-time or part-time status. Total compensation may also include additional forms of incentives. Benefits may be subject to program eligibility.
