Making a Difference
as a Nurse
As we celebrate National Nurses Week, we find ourselves reflecting on the impact that nurses have on our healthcare system, our communities, and our personal health journeys. Nurses are the backbone of healthcare, offering not just medical care, but emotional support, education, and a comforting presence in our most vulnerable moments. This week is not just a time to appreciate nurses; it's an opportunity to listen to their stories, understand their challenges, and celebrate their unwavering dedication to healing and helping.
In honor of National Nurses Week, we've reached out to nurses across Centene to share their insights, experiences, and the wisdom they've gathered from their time on the front lines of healthcare. Their voices bring to light the reality of nursing—a career that is as challenging as it is rewarding, demanding a blend of strength, empathy, resilience, and compassion.
Christina M., Pediatric Nurse Care Manager
“My inspiration comes from the joy I receive knowing that I’m helping many complex members and their families. The responses I receive from my members after providing assistance, or just a listening ear, is priceless. I want my members to feel like they’re an important part of their health plan team, to empower them to advocate for themselves… Don’t choose to be a Nurse for the paycheck, choose to become a Nurse so you can provide care in a compassionate and empathetic manner when a patient is at their most vulnerable state."
Megan B., Manager, Case Management
“I make sure our staff understands “why” we are here and “who” we are serving, even if it’s only one member a day. When someone has faced a barrier and a care manager comes along and removes that barrier, it ignites something inside of people that is contagious and before you know it, you have others knocking at the door. That’s what grows our membership, one member at a time, which eventually becomes the entire community. My hope is for people to see that the ultimate goal is selflessness. Your members, patients, and families will only be truly served when we are selfless. This is bigger than nursing, it’s about serving others, not to be served.”
Judy C., Case Manager
“Every day there are challenges where I use all the knowledge from my 40-plus years of experience. As a case manager, you try and utilize all your expertise and past experiences, which is extremely helpful as a lot of my members don’t know where to go or who to ask. But I love my job, I’m there to make sure everything is in order. That’s the way nurses are. If I didn’t have this desire and passion, I wouldn’t be good at this job.”
This National Nurses Week, let's take a moment to acknowledge and celebrate our nurses. Their stories of courage, compassion, and commitment inspire us all and remind us of the critical role nurses play in our lives and the lives of our loved ones.
