Position Purpose: The Senior Sales Director for large group is a senior level sales executive to enhance the senior sales management team. Lead a statewide sales team to achieve the objectives and goals set forth by the sales plan; may include new sales, account retention, market expansion, new product launch & enterprise marketing.

Achieves membership, revenue & profitability objectives for the relevant sales portfolio. This position will have direct accountability for the sales staff throughout California as well as manage the distribution of products in their arena.


Provides direction & leadership in the formation & execution of sales, retention & enterprise marketing strategies. Expand awareness of Health Net capabilities in relevant segments; establishes value added & differentiable identity. Working throughout the state, creates demand for company products & programs.Provide leadership to market as key member of the management team.


Develop annual business plan to meet Health Plan’s membership, revenue & profitability objectives; establish sales and account activity, production and service objectives based on business plans, and monitor results weekly. Coordinate & implement account management strategies to maintain current book of business.


Design & implement sales and persistency strategies for all key group accounts. 


Enhance sales & retention strategy as necessary; develop strategies to retain membership, grow desirable market share & transform underperforming markets.


Develop best practices and implement based on local market conditions; assess organization’s competitiveness in local markets and collaborate with operations & underwriting to improve market share.


Establish & maintain working relationships with key internal and external stakeholders


Participate in and lead major sales presentations.


Work with: product, sales and operations managers on cost savings and/or process improvement; take an active role in the development and launch of new products, as well as maintenance of existing products.


Develop infrastructure to ensure high level of administrative efficiency, satisfaction & responsiveness.


Develop knowledgeable, competent and effective sales and account management teams via sales and account management performance reviews; establish performance management system emphasizing continuous feedback.


Organize & staff sales force; includes recruitment, development and retention of sales staff.


Manage department budgets for staffing and other sales costs.

Qualifications:

Education/Experience: Bachelor’s Degree required, Master’s Degree preferred. Minimum of  5 years sales management experience in health insurance, including creating strong sales & account management culture. Experience with a full range of large group healthcare insurance products. Established relationships with California insurance consultants, brokers and agencies.


License/Certification: 

Valid insurance license issued by appropriate state insurance regulating agency for assigned territory.  Valid driver’s license.
