Position Purpose: The Group Medicare Business Development Manager is responsible for developing and driving new market initiatives, assessing market opportunities and analyzing business opportunities as it relates to sales and retention objectives for specific geographic area(s) or market segment(s) including, but not limited to, prospecting, lead generation, community networking and provider-partnering opportunities, etc. as it applies to Employer Group Waiver Plans (EGWP). This position is responsible for daily management and oversight of activities related to growth of Centene's EGWP/Group Medicare plans, retention of membership and account maintenance.

  • Initiates, develops, implements and tracks activities, sales and retention strategies and budget to achieve membership growth activities and expand lead generation and sales visibility.
  • Implements strategies to obtain new business, and tracks and reports sales and retention activities.
  • Plans and manages team member activities including, but not limited to, presentations, mass mailings, meetings and training sessions.
  • Partners with sales teams to achieve sales and retention targets and market execution
  • Manages activities, hires associates, conducts performance appraisals, provides training, and motivates, counsels, and disciplines associates, etc. Handles and resolves team issues.
  • Conducts education events to achieve improved retention. Maintains a visible role in the new member experience.
  • Develops provider and strategic relationships to accomplish goals and objectives and maintain positive relationships.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Qualifications:


    Education/Experience:  Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Business Administration or related field preferred. Minimum five years of sales/business development experience preferably with Employer Group Waiver Plans, labor & union trusts, Medicare, or with Commercial or State Health Plan products at a major health plan company. Two years of supervisory or lead experience. Proven sales track record in prospecting, lead generation and sales in the individual market. Proven record of growing membership by focusing on employer groups through broker and consultant relationships.


    License/Certification: Valid insurance license issued by appropriate state insurance regulating agency for assigned territory required within 45 days of hire.  Valid driver’s license.
